Boston Market, along with Major League Eating, introduced a marketing campaign, which they called “The Boston Marathon”. Due to the rules of this competition, the participant must eat 3 whole chickens, two pot pies, 8 pieces of cornbread, 6 sides and two desserts of choice. All this must be done in an hour without anyone’s help.

So far, only Nathan Nevins (known as “Sweet Potato”) was the winner of this activity and he received a “Wing of Honor” for it.

The company produces 15 million pounds of mashed potatoes each year, uses more than 112,000 heads of lettuce a month and serves 10,7 million pounds of vegetables each year.

Boston Market

The Boston Market’s concept was founded in 1985, in Massachusetts by Arthur Cores and Steven Kolow. Although the chain had quite a success in certain periods of 1990’s, the company gathered some debts to sustain its expansions.

Thanks to the expansion, the company was able to receive some revenue from one-time development fees, increasing royalties but it also would receive high interest rates on the development loans. Due to these circumstances, the company filed for bankruptcy in 1998.

Two years later, in 2000, the Boston Market was purchased by McDonalds. At first, the plan was to convert purchased restaurants into McDonalds, but then it was decided to expand the brand. In the beginning of August, 2007, they were planning to sell the whole Boston Market chain to Sun Partner Capitals and did so by the end of the month.

Boston Market introduced chilled several menu items to be sold at supermarkets in 2004 (although there was a certain selection of the company’s branded items in the US supermarkets since 1991).
